what is the big blue ball project?

Big Blue Ball: Pictures, people, place is an international research project, conducted by Dr. Donna Wright, an artist, researcher and educator living and working in Brisbane, Australia. The project utilises creativity and creative arts practice as a way of sharing ideas across cultures. It facilitates intercultural dialogue, broadening understandings about ourselves and our world, encouraging diversity awareness and tolerance.

Over 150 participants from more than 90 nationalities have responded creatively to a selection of images and have produced paintings, collages, digitised artworks, photographs, poetry, narratives and free word associations. These intercultural interpretations are showcased on the website.

The project is extended through an artistic exchange between the artist and researcher, Dr. Donna Wright, and project participants from around the world. The outcome of this exchange takes the form of 200 miniature paintings on small magnetised wooden blocks.

The project website provides both an exhibiting space for the Big Blue Ball collection, which is updated regularly, and an interactive creative exchange where the public can be part of this intercultural playground for sharing ideas in an increasingly globalised world.

The Creative Exchange page of this site allows the public to actively participate in the project by interacting with the 200 miniature paintings, and by creatively constructing their own ''canvases".

Big Blue Ball: Pictures, people, place aims to discover new understandings about the contemporary phenomenon of intercultural existence and how we might perceive global interactivity in everyday life.
